KOUROS (1966 – Rijeka)

He is
Kouros on the pier,
loose-limbed, long-flanked,
balanced on his feet,
toes grasping the planks.
At the end of his relaxed arms
his fingers curl palm-ward.
A bright aura shines around
his tidy head and shoulders.
Innocent, strong, he hesitates against
a dusk-dappled sea, and
makes his plunge, headlong,
away from me.

The sea yields him from
its amniotic embrace:
He surfaces – a gift, and
dripping twilight streams
climbs the ladder.
With outstretched hands, I offer
the towel.

In memory of J-D S., and a summer. GM 12/10/2005

So, you visited my country in 1966? (Back then Rijeka was in Yugoslavia, but I was not born yet, not even planned ๐Ÿ™‚ so can I call it my country then?)

When will you visit Belgrade and Serbia? You are always very welcome here ๐Ÿ™‚
